UGA Tops Ivies, Finishes Two Teams in Top 40 in Nation

4.23.10 UGA Mock Trial defeated two Ivy League opponents and finished two teams in the top 40 in the nation in its first trip to the National Championship Tournament last weekend.

The National Championship Tournament was held in Memphis, TN on April 16-18 and featured the top 48 teams in the country. UGA was one of only nine programs to qualify two teams for the tournament.

At the end of the tournament, Team 1427 finished 27th in the nation, and Team 1428 finished 39th, placing UGA's top two teams in the top five and seven percent in the country, respectively, out of more than 600 teams that began the year.

Team 1427 defeated two Ivy League opponents, Princeton and Yale, winning both ballots against Yale and taking the high-end of a +18, -8 split to Princeton. The team's losses came to two-time national champion the University of Virginia and four-time national champ Rhodes College.

Virginia Newman ('10) took home an All-American Attorney Award.
